Do I need to purchase a license to use a logo from Design.com?
In order to download and use a logo from our website, you must first purchase the appropriate license. All of our packages include a standard logo license. This is a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide, perpetual, and irrevocable license to use the work from Design.com.
What are the different licenses that you offer for logos?
We offer four types of licenses for our logo designs:
Free License
Available for a small selection of logos. This license gives you non-exclusive rights to use the design, meaning other users can also purchase and use it.
Standard License
This is the default license included with all our logo packages. It provides you with non-exclusive rights, meaning others can also purchase and use the same design.
Exclusive License
This license grants you the full intellectual property rights to the design. Once purchased, the logo is instantly removed from our store and will no longer be available for anyone else to buy.
Buyout License
hen you purchase a Buyout License, your design is instantly removed from the store, and you become the final person to ever buy that specific design. Please be aware that anyone who purchased the design before you will still retain the right to use it. You can upgrade to an Exclusive or Buyout License (if available) for an additional cost. To do this, go to My Account > Logos and click the "Upgrade License" button next to your logo.
What is a Standard License?
The Standard License provides you with non-exclusive rights to use the design. Because it's a non-exclusive license, other customers can also purchase and use the same logo. This is the default license type included with every package.
What is an Exclusive License?
The Exclusive License gives you the full intellectual property rights to a logo design. Once you purchase it, that design is instantly removed from our store and can no longer be purchased by anyone else. Please note: Not all logos have an Exclusive License available. If the one you want is not available, our team can help you find alternative logo options that do.
What is a Buyout License?
The Buyout License is a non-exclusive license that instantly removes the logo from our store, making you the last person to ever purchase it. Please note that people who bought the design before you will still retain the right to use it.
Will the Standard License allow me to use the logo however I want?
Yes! The Standard License gives you non-exclusive rights to use the design however you wish, whether online, in print, or by creating variations.
Should I upgrade my Standard License to an Exclusive License?
By default, all logo packages include a Standard License, which gives you non-exclusive rights to use the design in any way you wish—online, in print, or with modifications. However, if you want to be the sole owner of the logo, the Exclusive License may be the right choice for you. Upgrading to this license will permanently remove the logo template from our website before anyone else can purchase it. You can upgrade to an Exclusive License for an additional cost by going to My Account > Logos and clicking the "Upgrade License" button next to your logo preview. Please note that not all logos have an Exclusive License available.
How can I own the full rights to the logo?
You can become the sole owner of a logo by upgrading to an Exclusive License. This upgrade instantly removes the logo from our store, so it can no longer be purchased by anyone else. Please note: Not all logos have an Exclusive License available. To upgrade, go to My Account > Logos and click the "Upgrade License" button next to your logo preview. If you do not see this button, it means the license is not available for that specific logo. If the Exclusive License is not an option for your current logo, our team would be happy to help you find an alternative design that is.
How can I upgrade my logo license to Buyout?
To upgrade to a Buyout License, go to My Account > Logos and click the "Upgrade License" button next to your logo preview. You will then be able to purchase the license upgrade as a monthly subscription, an annual subscription, or a one-time payment. Please note that if you do not see the "Upgrade License" button, this license is not available for your logo.
How can I upgrade my logo license to Exclusive?
You can upgrade to an Exclusive License for an additional cost if it is available for your logo.
Go to My Account > Logos.
Click the "Upgrade License" button next to your logo preview.
You will then be presented with the option to purchase this license upgrade as a monthly, annual, or one-time payment. Please note: Not all logos will have an Exclusive License available. If the option is not visible, our team can help you find alternative logo designs that do.
Can I trademark my purchased logo?
Design.com cannot grant or guarantee the right to trademark a logo. You are responsible for conducting your own trademark inquiries in your specific region and industry. Please be aware that logos purchased with a non-exclusive license (Free, Standard, or Buyout) may not be eligible for trademark registration. For this reason, you should not trademark a logo that you do not own the Exclusive License for.
Upgrading Your License
If an Exclusive License is available for your logo, you can purchase it for an additional cost. Simply go to My Account > Logos and click the "Upgrade License" button next to your logo preview. If the Exclusive License is not available for your logo, our team can help you find an alternative design that is.
Can I use the logo I purchased for commercial purposes?
Yes, once you purchase the logo, you can use it perpetually for both personal and commercial purposes.
What is the difference between the Buyout and Exclusive License?
The difference between the two licenses is about ownership and exclusivity. Here's a breakdown to make it clearer:
Exclusive License
What you get: This license grants you the full intellectual property rights to the design.
What happens to the logo: It is instantly removed from the store and will never be available for anyone else to purchase.
Result: You are the sole owner of the logo.
Buyout License
What you get: This is a non-exclusive license.
What happens to the logo: It is instantly removed from the store, so it will no longer be available for new purchases.
Result: You are the last person to buy the logo, but anyone who purchased it before you still retains the rights to use the design.
Key Difference: An Exclusive License gives you sole ownership, while a Buyout License simply prevents future sales, but does not grant you exclusive rights over past buyers. Important Note: The Buyout and Exclusive licenses are mutually exclusive. If a logo has a Buyout License available, it means the Exclusive License for that particular logo is no longer an option.
